Zbeul Studio is a multidisciplinary creative workshop founded by Thomas Noui. Based in Paris, we develop a body of work where design, history, and experimentation intertwine to give rise to unprecedented forms. Our practice is defined by a conceptual approach that places material and its transformations at the core of the creative process.

ENG Historically, the use of bone dates back to the dawn of humanity. While the early periods of human history have been defined by the techniques and materials used—such as stone, bronze, and fire—one material that played a significant role in the development of human societies has been overlooked: bone. Much of the work involving this material fell within the realm of folk crafts. In agro-pastoral regions, during the winter months, bonework provided an economic supplement and an activity to pass the winter. With the restructuring of society during industrialization and the rise of hygienism, this craftsmanship gradually disappeared. This research has crystallized in this chair through a juxtaposition of bones retaining their organic essence and a minimalist structure of lacquered steel. Stained black using techniques derived from cabinetmaking, the bones integrated into this object serve both as a decorative element and a functional component. By working with this divisive material, I sought to play with a sense of attraction and repulsion.
